More Traffic Headaches in the UCLA Area This Weekend

A well-traveled but short section of Sepulveda Boulevard will be closed this weekend to accommodate work on the Sunset Boulevard interchange — part of the larger San Diego (405) Freeway carpool lane project.  Starting about 10 p.m. Friday, Sepulveda will be closed in both directions between Church Lane and Montana Avenue, according to Metro, which is overseeing the freeway construction. Sepulveda, often used as an alternative to the 405, is scheduled to be reopened by 5 a.m. Monday.  The work includes using heavy equipment to install of girders for the Sunset Boulevard off ramp from northbound freeway lanes… Full story…

Construction on Wilshire West of 405

There is a construction project now approved for Wilshire between Federal and Bonsall west of the 405 involving adding a bus lane by widening the avenue.  This construction will begin once the current 405 construction over Wilshire ends.  (Bonsall is the street that runs through the Veterans’ home area.  Click on the image above for a better view.)  Exactly what happens going east from Bonsall is unclear in terms of any construction since once you get to the freeway overpass, further widening for the bus lane would not be possible. The lanes to be added west of Bonsall won’t subtract…

It looks like the ObamaJam that we mentioned as a possibility for today and tomorrow in an earlier post will turn out to be more like ObamaJelly – at least in the Westside area near UCLA.  The President is coming but it appears most of his traveling will be by helicopter and what street closings there may be won’t be close to campus.
