Audio: Regents July 13, 2011 (Second Day)

Yesterday, we posted the audios of the first day of the July 12-14, 2011 Regents meetings. (The first day was actually meetings of two committees.) Today we post the second day audio in two parts. Below is the agenda with links to agenda documents. We again note that the Regents live-stream the audio of their meetings and record them. But they do not archive the recordings for public access. Why not? We have to request the recordings and do the posting, an unnecessary step which – as is evident from the posting at this late date – involves a delay….

Audio: July 12, 2011 (First Day) Regents Meeting

We have been promising audios of the July 12-14, 2011 Regents meetings and below are links to the first day in two parts. Yours truly again raises the issue of why – since the Regents live-stream and record their meetings – they don’t then archive the audio on their website. Since they don’t, we have to request the audios and then mount them on a platform to link to this blog. That is more laborious than it might seem. And it would be unnecessary if the Regents did their own archiving. The agenda for the first day of the July…

Captain Video saves the Faculty Assn. blog videos and audios from cloud destruction

An earlier post noted that past audios/videos of Regents meetings, UCOF, PEB, and certain radio or TV interviews or debates were in danger of disappearing from this blog due to the discontinuation of video-Yahoo. I have now transitioned these files to Facebook and embedded them on the blog in place of the video-Yahoo versions. In particular, the early materials that were part of the discontinued savingUCLA website are available on this blog at: http://uclafacultyassociation.blogspot.com/2010/06/selected-non-youtube-audios-and-videos.html It is useful to preserve these materials, particularly where policy commitments are made by Regents, administrators, or others, in the event that policy changes are subsequently…

Audios of Regents Meeting of 7-15-10 Available

I was only able to record the 7-15-10 session of the Regents and not the earlier days. As a result, the recording did not include the discussion of online education referenced in prior postings. The 7-15-10 meeting of the UC Regents was divided into 5 sessions. The first was public comment. Included was a comment by AFT on a survey taken by the union, complaints of anti-Semitism and anti-Arab discrimination. The second was on career/technical education. The third was a report on audit processes. Included was a discussion of data security and diversity standards. The third session involved the health…

Little Hoover Commission on Public Pensions in California

The State’s “Little Hoover Commission” is holding hearings on public pensions in California. There was a hearing yesterday on legal issues and one today 6-24-10. There does not appear to be any direct participation of UC in these hearings. Whether the UC pension is included in some background reports for the hearings is unknown (to me). The agenda is at: http://www.lhc.ca.gov/studies/activestudies/pension/Public_Notice_06-24-10.pdf UC’s unique pension situation tends to be lost in state discussions of the much larger CalPERS and CalSTRS systems. Note: A radio discussion of public pensions – including yours truly – can be heard at:http://www.kqed.org/epArchive/R201006180900 A Sacramento Bee report…

Selected non-YouTube audios and videos from discontinued savingUCLA website

Selected non-YouTube audios and videos from the discontinued savingUCLA website are available below. Click on the links below. Note: Audios are actually videos with a still picture. Originally, these audios/videos were moved to video-Yahoo. As a post in December 2010 indicated, video-Yahoo is discontiuing its service. (Yahoo is in commercial decline due to competition from Google, YouTube, etc.) . So the files were transitioned to Facebook. In some cases, the audio is poor, either because it was poor originally or because the files were saved in a way that limited the quality. I have originals in some cases that are…
